Why Month Six Is the Real Test of an Agent

Building a merchant book is one challenge. Keeping it healthy over time is the real test.

The first few months of being a Knomart Agent can feel exciting. You are finding businesses, onboarding merchants, completing installations and building your merchant book. But early activity does not tell the whole story.

By around month six, the novelty has worn off. The question changes from “Can I find merchants?” to “Can I serve the merchants I already have well enough to keep them?”

Why Six Months Changes the Job

A merchant book is not valuable simply because it contains many names. Its health depends on whether merchants continue using the service and remain active customers.

Knomart's current agent model gives agents a 50% commission while a merchant stays, alongside the applicable setup-fee economics. That makes retention part of the agent's long-term business model, not an afterthought.

It also means that a free-heavy merchant book can behave differently from a book with paying merchants. Free merchants can remain useful prospects, but they do not create the same recurring income until they upgrade.

What Month Six Reveals

By this stage, a strong agent should be able to look honestly at the book and ask:

  • Which merchants are actively using Knomart?
  • Which merchants need help?
  • Which merchants have become quiet?
  • Which free merchants may be ready to upgrade?
  • Where is support taking too much of my time?

These questions reveal whether the agent has built a repeatable way of serving businesses or is still relying on constant new sales to feel productive.

Retention Is a Service Test

Keeping a merchant is not about pushing them to stay. It is about making the relationship useful. The agent should understand the merchant's business, help when problems arise, follow up when appropriate and know when an issue needs to move from the agent to Knomart.

Month six therefore tests consistency: can the agent support a growing merchant book without losing track of the businesses already entrusted to them?

The Real Goal

A good agent is not simply someone who can sign up merchants. A good agent can build relationships that last, organise support, recognise opportunities for upgrades and manage their time as the merchant book grows.

Month six is where the difference becomes visible. Acquisition starts the book. Retention proves that the agent can manage it.
